Series: Angelique Description: The Angelique series is based in a fantasy world where the cosmos is ruled by a Queen. The Queen lives in a sacred realm together with her Guardians and her job is to make sure the spiritual energies (called sacrea) of the cosmos are kept in balance. The love simulation system of the games requires the main character (you) to repeat various activities in sequence, much like levelling up in a RPG, in order to cultivate your continent or cosmos. At the same time, you will develop a relationship with the love target of your choice. Series Background: After the first Angelique game was released, Koei began producing lots of drama CDs for the Angelqiue universe. As the sequels came out, more drama CD and vocal albums accompanied them. However, even as the games and drama CDs progressed, the Angelique manga series was based only on the first game. In 2000, Koei decided to produce a 2-part OVA series for Angelique. It was a sequel to the Tenkuu no Requiem game, as well as a prequel for the Angelique Trois game, the first Neoromance game to be released on the PS2 platform. The OVA character designs and animators also worked on the game to produce high quality graphics and animated sequences. After Trois, the story in the Angelique universe progressed into a cross-platform storyline, the Gemme Stories. Part 1 was released as comics in the fan magazine, Love Love Tsuushin, Part 2 was released in a 3-part OVA series, and Part 3 was released as a set of 4 drama CDs. The Gemme Stories plot is pretty much a side background story for the Angelique universe, but it served to explain a lot of the mythology of the series and linked everything together better. In the final game of the series, Angelique etoile, the whole universe was pretty much settled and all the loose ends were tidied up. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the series in 2004, Koei produced the 3-part Angelique OVA series based on the first game. Although the characters were based on the original designs, their animation character designs were re-drawn to match the style of current anime. Continuing the trend towards anime after the success of the Haruka anime series, Koei produced the Koisuru Tenshi Angelique anime series, adapted from the etoile game.
